Printmaking: Art Prints and Logo Adaptations
|
To the right is an example of a logo adaptation that I have done in woodblock form.
The BaronSamedi.org logo was designed by a professional designer friend of mine
(see colophon). He drew the sketch of the logo and
handed it off to me which I then sketched over to a linoleum block and cut. Then
I pulled a print off of the block, and gave it back to my friend who scanned it
for use as my logo. The logo that you see on the index page is the sketch that he
sent me, if you click on the image of the block to the right you will see a larger
image of both the block and of what the logo looks like after being scanned back in
from the print. I currently use the block print version on my business cards.

The images below are examples of my blocks for art prints. I have been working on
a set of Tarot cards that I hope to eventually finish and then (after doing a few
editions of the deck) see if anyone might be interested in publishing them. It is
going to take a while as there are 78 cards in a Tarot deck, and carving that much
linoleum takes a lot of energy and a lot of strain on the hands. I have completed
10 of what is called the "Major Arcana," which are the cards that people
mostly associate with the Tarot (the Lovers, Death, the Fool, etc.). That leaves
another 12 Major Arcana cards, 40 "pip" cards (numbered cards like in a
standard deck of playing cards), 12 "court" cards (King, Queen, Knight,
and Page... similar to a standard deck of playing cards) and a card back for all
of them. At this time I only have images of the blocks, but soon I should have some
images of the prints themselves.
